Background, Context and Challenges!

AHMS School is situated in Sofipura, a small village located about eighty kilometers from Srinagar in the beautiful Kashmir. This school had been a beacon of hope for families in the local community, providing them with access to education and opportunities for a brighter future. However, running this school has not been an easy task for its management. They had faced multiple challenges, including operating the school in makeshift small classrooms that lacked proper lighting and ventilation. The state of the school was difficult to imagine, they lacked almost all basic amenities, making it difficult for teachers and students to concentrate. Furthermore, due to space limitations, exams had to be conducted outside in open areas, leaving the students exposed to the harsh weather elements and other potential challenges. 

Despite these hardships, the school leadership had been tirelessly working to provide better educational facilities to the children of the community. However, due to the lack of resources and support, they had been unable to secure a proper school building, leaving the students and teachers in a somewhat demoralized state. The students, teachers, and the school leadership had shown great resilience and determination to keep the school running, but more support was needed to ensure that the children received the education they deserved. One of the biggest challenges faced by schools in rural areas is the lack of resource. In addition, the region is prone to harsh weather conditions, which further compounds the difficulties faced by schools and their students.

Despite these obstacles, they showed great determination and resilience in ensuring that the students received an education. It is essential to recognize the importance of education in rural areas, and the initiative taken by the school's management highlights the urgent need for further intervention to support such schools in the region. Through collaboration and support, they made significant enhancements to ensure that children in their rural areas receive the education they deserve and the opportunities they need for a brighter future.

Our Intervention (Library)

Maryam Library Foundation collaborated with Literacy International. decided to extend help and support this passionate group of individuals. We worked with AHMS to bring a positive change in the community. We recognized the school's potential and its management's commitment to the community's children. However, we also identified the challenges that the school faced, including inadequate facilities and lack of resources.

AHMS had secured help to build a basic school building for classrooms. But the school did not have resources to build a library and other STEM resources. With the support of Maryam Library Foundation a new library is being built that will become the center of inspiration for the students.  The children will have access to better educational facilities and opportunities for a brighter future.

In conclusion, our intervention in AHMS will provide the added support to create a positive learning environment for the children. It is an example of how collaboration and support can help ensure that children in rural areas receive the education they deserve and the opportunities they need for a brighter future. The school became a beacon of hope for the entire community. 

Way Ahead- What lies in the Future?  

Looking towards the future, Maryam Library foundation and Literacy International (through their Raabta program), believe that education is the foundation for a better future, and we are committed to making it happen. With AHMS, we can achieve a lot, but we also recognize that there is still a long way to go. The world is changing, and we need to ensure that our children are equipped with the skills that will help them thrive in the future.

Our vision for AHMS is to become a beacon of hope for other schools in Kashmir and rural India. We want to inspire change and transform the lives of children who have been overlooked for far too long. We believe that with your support, we can make this a reality.

In the future, we would like to collaborate to build a Tech Lab, and a STEM Lab. These facilities will provide children with the tools and opportunities they need to learn and grow. We will also work towards certifying our teachers and school leaders to ensure that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to lead our children to success.

We envision a future where children from AHMS not only excel academically but also in sports and other areas outside the classroom. We want them to be well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on the world.
