Kaasam Community Library, Ghana
About the Kassam, Ghana Library
Established as a community library in the village of Barimayena in the region of Ashanti, Ghana. The village includes 5,000 residents who work primarily as cocoa farmers. There are 385 primary and 149 junior high school students from Barimayena and neighboring villages who attend the primary and secondary school. Barimayena is a very poor rural community with an average income of $5/day. This project was organized in collaboration with African Library Project, Help Aid Africa and several volunteers.
English is the official language in Ghana; French is also taught in primary and secondary classes.
This project helped build the library from ground up with the books donated.
This project was completed under the mentorship of Natalie who is a great proponent of building libraries in Africa.
