Maryam Library Foundation's Ambitious Endeavor: Cultivating Bilingual Learners in Chinnikatti
The Maryam Library Foundation is thrilled to unveil our latest project in the Byadagi taluk, Haveri district area: a state-of-the-art library at Government Higher Primary School, Chinnikatti. We believe in the power of education to open doors and expand horizons, and this project is a testament to our commitment to empowering young minds.
GHPS Chinnikatti: A Unique Learning Environment
The School is a vibrant learning community where 221 students from grades 1 to 8 are nurtured by ten dedicated teachers. What makes this school truly unique is its bilingual approach: while Kannada is the primary medium of instruction, English is also taught from grades 1 to 4, creating a rich and diverse learning environment.
Thanks to OSAAT's generous contribution in 2019, the school has six classrooms and a toilet block, providing a solid foundation for our library project. The school has also committed a separate room for the library, allowing us to design a truly inspiring and transformative space.
Library Project: A Vision for a Bilingual Library
Our vision for GHPS Chinnikatti library goes beyond the traditional model. We created a library that celebrates bilingualism and supports the school's unique curriculum. Here's what we were able to achieve:
A Dual-Language Collection: We carefully curated a collection that includes a wide range of books in both Kannada and English, catering to diverse interests and reading levels.
Interactive Learning Zones: We created dedicated areas for language learning, storytelling, group projects, and independent study.
Multilingual Resources: We provided dictionaries, language learning software, and other tools to support both Kannada and English language development.
Cultural Celebrations: This wll provide space to the school to host events that showcase both Kannada and English cultures, fostering appreciation for diversity and promoting cultural exchange.
